Mitchell Santner on New Zealand Win: New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner had little hope of victory after the first innings in the T20 match played in Ranchi on Friday. He himself pointed this out after the match was over. Santner said that the target of 176 runs never seemed safe to him during the match.
The Indian team was defeated by 21 runs in the first match of the three-match T20 series against New Zealand. In this match, the Kiwi team scored 176 runs while batting first. Chasing this score on the pitch of Ranchi was not a difficult task. But the Indian team lost 3 wickets in the powerplay itself and gave the Kiwi team a chance to take the lead.
What did Mitchell Santner say?
After the victory, Mitchell Santner said, ‘I think the way the pitch behaved in the second innings, it was surprising. After scoring a lot of runs in the ODI series, it was good to see the ball turning. Well, I didn’t think we (score of 176) were ever safe. At the time of the toss, we were thinking of bowling first because the ground was visible from the beginning, the good thing is that it did not increase much in the second innings. There was a lot of spin in the new and hard ball powerplay. During this, Santner also praised the batting of Daryl Mitchell. He said, ‘Daryl Mitchell batted really well.’
Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose bowling
New Zealand, batting first here, scored a score of 176 runs thanks to the rapid half-centuries of Devon Conway (52) and Daryl Mitchell (59). Here the Indian spinners bowled well but the fast bowlers were beaten a lot. In response, the Indian team could score only 155 runs till the stipulated over. From India, only Washington Sundar (50) and Suryakumar Yadav (47) were able to present a challenge to the Kiwi bowlers. New Zealand’s spinners did not give opportunities to Indian batsmen to open their hands for the whole time.
